The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating a homicide that occurred in Trenton early Monday morning.  Trenton police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation for a shooting in the first block of Oakland Avenue at approximately 3:30 a.m.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the kitchen of his residence with a gunshot wound to the chest.  The victim, identified as 18-year-old Tayvion Jones, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Police were able to quickly identify a suspect in the shooting, and he was stopped and taken into custody nearby. His name is not being released at this time as charges have not been filed yet. Police will provide more information as it becomes available.

The victim of this morning’s homicide on Daymond Street has been identified as 44-year-old Antwuan Bowens, 44, of Trenton.

A second shooting homicide is also under investigation this morning. Police responded to a shooting in progress in the area of Daymond Street just before 9 a.m. (This is the same area as Saturday night’s homicide.) Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The victim’s name is being withheld pending confirmation and family notification.
