HAMILTON: Hamilton Police and Fire Departments responded to the railroad bridge located at Nottingham Way and North Johnston Avenue around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after multiple 911 callers reported an explosion.

First responders arrived on scene and located a Solterra sanitation truck with heavy damage all around the vehicle. Debris from the explosion damaged two safety fences, and unconfirmed reports of broken windows to a nearby building. A Mercury Grand Marquis also suffered front end damage when debris from the sanitation truck struck the vehicle.

Rail services were suspended for a short period of time until proper authorities were able to deem the bridge safe for travel.

An occupant of the Mercury was injured in the incident but refused medical attention. No other injuries were sustained.

This incident remains under investigation.

UPDATE: The explosion was caused after the truck was unable to clear the clearance of the bridge, causing the CNG tank to rupture. The driver of the truck normally operates a different diesel truck that is able to clear the bridge.
