HAMILTON TOWNSHIP (MERCER): Hamilton Police have five people in custody after an ATM theft committed at the Santander Bank located at 2730 Nottingham Way.

An off-duty officer called police to report suspicious activity at the bank. The officer was able to follow the suspect vehicle, a gold Lexus with Florida license plates, until on-duty officers were able to stop it. A final stop of the vehicle was made at Nottingham Way and East State Street.

Upon investigation and searches, Hamilton Police took all five occupants into custody. Amount of proceeds are unknown at this time.

This is a multi-jurisdictional investigation in several counties from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. The scam appears to be an error in Santander ATMs where people can continuously withdraw money using fake debit cards.

The FBI has now joined in on this ongoing investigation. Many suspects are in custody and more are actively being arrested.

Multiple other thefts have taken place throughout Mercer County, however we do not have enough information yet to release. This story continues to be developing.
