Trenton, N.J. – Interim Police Director Steve E. Wilson today announced that a Trenton man has been arrested for unlawful possession of an AK-47-style assault rifle, a handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine, and multiple doses of illegal narcotics.

Raheem Wilson, 24, of Trenton, was arrested on July 10, 2021 and charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine, unlawful possession of an assault rifle, being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm, possession of a handgun during the course of a controlled dangerous substance offense, possession of “dum-dum” rounds, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park, and a motor vehicle summons.

During a vehicle slowdown operation in the area of Donnelly Homes, Wilson was allegedly seen driving a 2017 Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed. When TPD officers initiated a motor vehicle stop they observed a black Glock 17 handgun with an extended magazine on the floor of his vehicle. Wilson was then removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

After placing him under arrest, TPD officers found a loaded AK-47-style rifle with fully loaded high-capacity and drum style magazines. Distribution amounts of crack cocaine and MDMA (“Molly”) pills were also recovered from the vehicle.

Director Wilson credited officers with TPD’s Violent Crimes Rapid Response Unit and Neighborhood Task Force, under the direction of Captain Jason Astbury, with the investigation.

These charges and allegations are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. This is an ongoing investigation.

So far in 2021 the TPD has recovered 153 firearms, 88 of which were seized during arrests.
