It was an evening full of high energy and excitement as friends and family of the two time Olympian Gold Medalist, Athing Mu gathered at the Newark International Airport to welcome her home.
Thanks to Mayor Reed Gusciora, the Newark International Airport – Port Authority and Superintendent of Secondary Schools, Hope Grant, this all was made possible.
Assistant Superintendent Grant, gave everyone directions in order to ensure that things went off without a hitch and as she envisioned, it was perfect!
Family, friends, and students came out to meet the two time gold medalist. Trenton Central High School’s ROTC were present as well to stand proud and welcome the super star athlete home.
“Okay everyone, repeat after me….When I say Trenton, you say High. Trenton (High), Trenton (High). When I say Athing, you say Gold. Athing (Gold), Athing (Gold).” Asst. Superintendent Grant, known for her famous call and response was no different tonight and had everyone fired up and ready to go!
As the group greeted Athing, a big smile came across her face for all to see. She was greeted with loud cheers, balloons, flowers and lots of love; her family was so proud and happy.
We were able to have a brief interview with Athing also that will be shared, she is a very kind and humble young lady that we know will go far.
Tomorrow, the City of Trenton is having a parade in Athing’s honor beginning at Trenton Central High School at 2pm and ending at City Hall where Athing will be presented the key to the City! It’s going to be a well deserved grand celebration for a young lady who not only brought home the gold but she also brought home HOPE.
Congratulations once again Athing, we salute you.
