TRENTON-NJ-Last year amid an unprecedented time of radical change for us all, Jerry Garcia created Trees for Trenton to spread a little holiday joy in his hometown Trenton. The hardships of the pandemic forced many to prioritize and reallocate funds to things with greater priority. Understandably, a Christmas tree was not at the top of the list. Garcia didn’t get to have a Christmas tree in his home every year growing up, but when He did, the Christmas lights always cheered Garcia up. So, Garcia decided to give away two trees, but the response from the community was positively unexpected. Many more wished for a tree to brighten up their holidays. Garcia knew that he had to do more.

This year Trees for Trenton hopes to expand its reach to more families in Trenton, Ewing, Hamilton, and many other families within a drivable distance, Garcia says. Last year, transportation was a limitation for Garcia, but fortunately, his efforts are joined by Roof Wizards, a family-operated construction company headquartered in Trenton. Garcia says they have put their trucks and drivers at my service and kindly donated to reach more families this year, along with his cousin Heiler Montero.

Garcia says he was overwhelmed by the number of people who wanted to donate ornaments and toys last Christmas; Garcia was a military officer stationed 2 hours away. Garcia didn’t have a drop-off location. This year, He welcomes anyone who would like to donate to stop by the Roof Wizards’ office. He will place a toy and ornament bin there. The Roof Wizards staff will wrap all toys donated. Ornaments and toys will be distributed during tree deliveries.
