EWING PD: On January 20, 2022, at approximately 8:09 pm, Officer Rick Sookhu was sent to the area of Pennington Road and Lanning Street for a disabled vehicle in the roadway. Upon nearing the intersection of Main Boulevard, Officer Sookhu struck an unoccupied vehicle from behind. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had become disabled and was left partially on Route 31 in the Southbound curb lane. The vehicle was obscured by brush and overgrowth in the area and did not have any lights illuminated. Officer Sookhu was able to notify other officers of the crash and his location. Officer Sookhu was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Officer Sookhu was later released. It is not believed that anyone was near the disabled vehicle when it was stuck, and there were no other injuries. A police K9 was used to search the area for anyone who may have been injured in the crash and not immediately located by responding officers. The investigation also revealed that Sookhu was traveling under the posted speed limit when he struck the vehicle.
