LAWRENCE-TWP- In the early hours of Friday, March 31, 2024, at approximately 2:34 AM, Lawrence Township Police Officer Piotr Bystrek was conducting a routine patrol in the 2100 block of Princeton Pike in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. During his patrol, Officer Bystrek observed two males on bicycles committing a traffic violation.

Upon making contact with the individuals, they were identified as Jaylin Derry-Poole, a 20-year-old from Butternut Row in Princeton, NJ, and Alfred Jornegay, a 31-year-old from Leigh Ave in Princeton, NJ. Further investigation on the scene revealed that both males had outstanding warrants for their arrest.

A search incident to the arrests uncovered that Jornegay was in possession of a Ruger Model 9E handgun and a seventeen-round capacity magazine. Consequently, Jornegay was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon by a convicted person, possession of a large capacity magazine, and failure to submit to identification procedures. Derry-Poole was arrested on his outstanding warrant.

Both suspects were subsequently lodged at the Mercer County Correctional Center pending a detention hearing.
