Lawrence Township, N.J. (PBN) On Friday, October 6, 2023, at approximately 1:10 a.m. Lawrence Township Police Sergeant John Stever was on patrol when he observed a silver sedan parked in the area of the United States Post Office (Circle Branch) located at 2601 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ.

Sergeant Stever made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. The on-scene investigation revealed the occupants were in possession of various opened pieces of mail and checks/money orders in multiple victims’ names within the vehicle. Further investigation, revealed evidence of a burglary to the mailbox at the Post Office.

Sergeant Stever and assisting Lawrence Township Police Officers ultimately arrested and charged Mikal Bush (19-year-old male, 1200 block of Martin Luther King Blvd Trenton, NJ) and Jordyn E. Williams (19-year-old female, 500 block of Stone Hollow Dr, Irmo SC). Bush was charged with burglary, theft, and trafficking personal identifying information and lodged at the Mercer County Correctional Center pending a detention hearing. Williams was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, theft, trafficking personal identifying information, and hindering and was released from custody on a criminal complaint summons.

Since 2022, the Lawrence Township Police Department has received numerous reports from residents reporting check theft/fraud. In most of these cases, residents reported they had placed their checks into the USPS mailbox outside of the Circle Branch Post Office.
